The Iowa Blizzard of 2024

Winter storms (snow)blow so just for fun…. Here’s some positive things about getting two feet of snow in a couple days.

1. Legitimate excuse for staying home all weekend long and watching movies, reading books, or catching up on emails. Or if you’re like me, spending WAY too much time playing Zen Match on your iPad. May need an intervention. Will need to clear driveway before intervention can be had.

2. Shoveling = Cardio & Strength Training all in one. No need for the gym! Those New Year’s resolutions will be met whether you like it or not! 🏋🏼‍♀️

3. Snow ice cream. No further explanation needed. May conflict with reason two on list. 🍨

4. Great opportunity to organize that hall closet you’ve been putting off. There’s no escaping the house. There is no wrestling/band/basketball/dance class to run off to. May you channel your inner Marie Kondo. 🙏🏻

5. You can’t build a legitimate snow fort without copious amounts of snow. Unless the snow is above your child’s head, how will they dig a tunnel???

6. All the bugs and mice are dead now. And this is not a suitable climate for alligators. #MidwesternWin🐊

7. No derechos on the horizon. Chainsaws can stay nestled safely in the garage.

8. Quality time with family. Even though my 7 year old has cried a few times today because my husband shows no mercy every time they play checkers. #BuildingCharacter♟️

9. Kids playing in snow = physical exhaustion. This bodes well for bedtime. Unless of course they get a second wind, in which case this point is completely moot and not helpful.

10. Lots of entertaining content on neighborhood Facebook pages. One guy was even offering free snow shoveling lessons in his driveway. #IowaNice

11. One day, we can tell our grandkids about the Snowstorm of ‘24. We got the tractor stuck twice and the utility bills made the grocery bills look like child’s play. Trying times, they were. We couldn’t even walk uphill both ways because school was cancelled.

12. Midwestern folks are tough as nails and this is really our time to shine ☃️🌀

13. No freezer space? No problem. Set those TV dinners by the back door. And if they get covered in snow drifts, it’ll be like a fun mealtime surprise in a few weeks when you find them again. 🍽️

14. No shortage of small talk content for at least a few months. #HowBoutThatSnow

15. If you work in snow removal, you can now afford to send all your kids to a private four year university. (Just kidding, nobody can afford that.)

Stay warm, friends ❄️
